Description

In 2014 officers of the Prague Municipal Police caught a small group of Cameroon goats in the Šárka valley. The goats had no ear tags or tattoos, so we were unable to trace their owner. Nobody came forward to claim three nanny goats and one billy goat, so we placed them in the Kamýk zoo corner. The billy was already an old grandfather and died in 2016, but he left four kids behind. Over the years some of the goats died of old age, others paid the price for the recklessness of visitors who — despite an explicit ban — throw unsuitable food into the enclosure. The present herd consists of three goats – Čertice, Čokoláda and Karamelka. Karamelka is the one with the brown coat.

Our Cameroon goats are playful and inquisitive; they love climbing high and jumping. That is why their refurbished enclosure has new walkways and climbing frames where they can let off steam. Their menu includes oats, barley, alfalfa or beet pulp and, of course, fresh grass and branches to nibble. All of them are nicely plump and in good condition. Even though they are fed several times a day, they keep bleating for more and try to coax extra treats out of visitors. Our keepers feed them quite enough, so please do not let yourself be talked into it. You could easily harm them and cause serious digestive trouble.

Karamelka the brown goat already has these adoptive parents:
