Valais blackneck goats

2 000

Our two black-and-white Valais goats were born in 2019 in the Šumava mountains, where they shared a large pasture with sheep and pigs.

Description

That same year, however, they became pregnant too early, so they could not grow to a proper size and, unlike their peers, remained stunted. Because they were no longer suitable for breeding, the farm owner wanted to take them out of the herd and send them to the slaughterhouse. We happened to hear about their fate from a breeder in Český Krumlov and decided to save them.

They arrived at the zoo corner together with their young, but one kid died soon after the transport. It had advanced pneumonia and long-term digestive problems that could no longer be cured. Both mothers and the kid that survived were weak and emaciated, and it took a long time before they regained their strength. Because of the troubles they went through in the past, they will never grow to the normal size of Valais goats. That does not bother us — and it bothers the goats even less! They are still in good spirits and grateful for the care our keepers give them.
