Red deer – Šmudla the hind

Description

As a youngster she was hiding in the growth of a meadow that was due to be mown. The mower, which she could not escape, left cuts on her thighs and back. Fortunately a forester found her huddled in the grass and saved her. During her treatment, though, she grew too used to people — which sadly often happens precisely with fawns that depend on human care. Our zoo corner became her new home in 2014. Today her injuries are completely healed and cannot be seen at all. She is good-natured, but if somebody annoys her she will not put up with it. In anger she will happily bite or even kick a fellow hind. With people she first responds with warning signals, grimacing and grinding her teeth, and if even that does not help, she rears up on her hind legs. She shares the enclosure in the Malá Chuchle zoo corner with the hind Lenka.
