All the pheasants have been in the zoo corner for several years now; most of them came to us after 2015. They are escapees and adventurers who fled from private collections. They soon found out, though, that freedom holds a great many dangerous pitfalls. Because their owners could not be traced, they found a new home with us in the zoo corner.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>golden pheasant<\/strong> was caught by staff of our Prague Wildlife Rescue Centre in a forest in the south of Prague. On examination they found he was blind in one eye. Such a handicap severely limits an animal in the wild \u2014 it can easily fall prey to a fox, for example. The pheasant and his partner both have a very sweet, calm nature, yet the male still sometimes takes fright even at the keepers he knows, who regularly clean his aviary. That happens when he turns his head and his good eye catches an unexpected movement in the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p>One of the virtues of our <strong>silver pheasant<\/strong> is his singing. During the mating season his whistling is meant above all to win his partner\u2019s favour, but he also makes whistling sounds when he feels threatened and wants to warn the others to be on their guard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/zachranazviratpraha.cz\/en\/adoption\/\"><strong>Would you like to adopt one of the pheasants?
